Three years ago, Bollywood went crazy when Kareena Kapoor emerged from the water wearing a green bikini and looking almost anorexic. Size-zero had invaded the tinsel town and every heroine worth her body toed the line. Not to be left behind, their male counterparts rushed to the nearest gym after Aamir Khan flaunted his eight packs in 'Gajini'. With their whittling waistlines and iron-pumped chests, here's a look at actors who changed their body and the industry's image.
Take a look...
Aamir Khan in 'Gajini': It took 13 months and a daily regimen of four hours to get the most talked about eight-packs. Aamir's 'Gajini' body was fueled mostly with 16 egg whites through the day and atleast 1000 abdomen crunches everyday. So eight packs, anyone?
Priyanka Chopra in 'Dostana': When your costume consists of shorts, tank tops and tees and the background is Miami Beach, you cannot look dowdy. Priyanka hit the gym with vengeance and the result was quite visible. The actress looked luscious when she donned a golden swimsuit a la Ursula Andress's in 'Dr No'.
Hrithik Roshan in 'Dhoom 2': This comes as no surprise as the actor with drop dead good looks regularly works hard on his body. The super thief looked super hot as he roller-skated on Mumbai streets in the chase sequence. A week before shooting any scene which involves showing off his body, the actor does bench-press and lot of cardio.
Vidya Balan in 'Dirty Picture': She showed the whole world that extra layers of fat can also look hot. Burgers, bananas and cream biscuits was her staple diet as she put on 12 kgs to play the role of the southern sex siren. Her efforts paid off and Vidya's bold role as 'Silk' got her all the possible awards in the country for Best Actress.
John Abraham in 'Dostana': The actor has the most luscious derriere in Bollywood and his peek-a-boo act in the film earned him quite a huge number of female fans. The actor has now gone the JLo way and has insured his asset against 'any possible risk to his famous body part'. We too pray for its well-being!
Shahrukh Khan in 'Om Shanti Om': At the age of 45, the king Khan surprised his fans and critics as he danced in his six-pack body to 'Dard-e-Disco'. To achieve the look, Shah Rukh did 100 push-ups and 60 pull-ups and a lot of endurance training, weight lifting, cardiovascular exercises. True, age is just a number!
Sanjay Dutt in 'Agneepath': Sanjay Dutt's evil look as Kancha Cheena was the result of working out twice a day. The actor had happily settled to maritial bliss and had been having weighty issues for quite some time now. But his 'good friend' Salman Khan came to his rescue. While shooting for a cameo in 'Ready', Sanjay was given an exercise chart and a diet plan by the 'Dabangg' star. Whatever the plan was, the results are here to see.
Arjun Ramphal in 'Ra One': Arjun Ramphal's workout was a relentless iron-pumping affair. Free-hand training and cardio coupled with altitude training enhanced his metabolism. The gruelling schedule was followed by 20 minutes of treadmill and 10 minutes of cooling down. Apart from that, Arjun took up Tabata, a very high intensity Japanese workout regimen.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bipasha Basu in 'Dhoom 2':The two ladies of this film wowed the audience with their prefectly toned up bodies. Ash's trainer Deepika put her on a combination of dance routine and a daily session of yoga and meditation. The training worked and the star lost around 10 kgs. As for Bipasha, rumour has it that before shooting the bikini scene for the film, the actress worked out thrice a day and survived only on oranges. While this couldn't be confirmed, the actor definitely looked like milion bucks in the film.
